Trong triển lãm đang diễn ra tại Work Room Four, năm nghệ sĩ đương đại Việt Nam được mời tham gia ứng đáp lại tranh cổ động được sáng tác bởi nghệ sĩ Cuba René Mederos, người đã được chính phủ Cuba gửi tới Việt Nam vào năm 1969 và 1972, bằng các tác phẩm thị giác.
Lê Quý Tông, Phạm Khắc Quang, Nguyễn Nghĩa Cương, Nguyễn Thế Sơn và Giang Nguyễn làm việc với các chất liệu đa dạng khác nhau. Mỗi người là một ứng đáp riêng, đại diện cho mỗi yếu tố trong tác phẩm của Mederos bao gồm thẩm mĩ, chất liệu, bảng màu và đối tượng.
Trong buổi trò chuyện với nghệ sĩ tại Việt Goethe, Claire Driscoll – người giám tuyển triển lãm – sẽ điều phối cuộc đối thoại giữa năm nghệ sĩ để tìm hiểu phương pháp tiếp cận, cảm nhận về tác phẩm gốc, những khía cạnh nào trong quá khứ có thể báo trước về hiện tại và tầm quan trọng của đối thoại dọc thời gian.
Buổi trò chuyện sẽ bắt đầu vào 19:00 ngày Thứ Năm 25/5/2017 tại sảnh chính Việt Goethe 56-58 Nguyễn Thái Học. Buổi trò chuyện sẽ được dịch song song Anh – Việt.
A Present Retrospective – Artist Talk
For the current exhibition at Work Room Four five contemporary Vietnamese artists were asked to respond visually to propaganda art produced by the late Cuban Artist René Mederos who had been sent to Vietnam in 1969 and 1972 by his government.
Lê Quý Tông, Phạm Khắc Quang, Nguyễn Nghĩa Cương, Nguyễn Thế Sơn and Giang Nguyễn work across various media. Each is an individual response that speaks to a different element of Mederos’ work including his aesthetic, medium, colour palette and subject matter.
During an artist round table at the Goethe Institute Claire Driscoll who curated the work will moderate a conversation between the five artists to ask them about how they approached the task, what spoke to them from the initial work and which aspects of the past can inform the present and how important such a dialogue across time can be.
The talk will begin at 19:00 in the main hall of the Goethe Institute 56-58 Nguyen Thai Hoc, there will be simultaneous translation for English and Vietnamese
